Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRetasted but not a lot of change, the fruit comes off an old gravel pit, Rock Pile Vineyard in Oliver. Look for an open, soft, mocha, cherry chocolate nose with cedar and sagebrush. The attack is similar, with sweet intense cassis and espresso. It finishes with a rush of residual sugar that tends to make it softer than it might be. Try all summer with burgers or a favourite barbecue rib dish.Tasted: 24 March 2021Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Frind Estate's Rock Pile Vineyard in Oliver, a former gravel pit, this is led by dusty, mocha-flaked oak that sits on top of plummy fruit. The desert sage characteristic of the South Okanagan also comes through, adding an extra dimension to the wine. It's clearly quite youthful at this stage, but it's also been made to be ready-to-go out of the gates. The palate is smooth and easy, helped by a touch of residual sugar (5 g/L), and it comes in at an attractive 13% abv.Tasted: 17 November 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMerlot continues to make its way in BC and as its origins improve, so do the wines. Frind Estate is using fruit from Rock Pile Vineyard in Oliver. The old gravel pit has a new life, and it seems at one with merlot. Look for a fresh, open, mocha, cherry chocolate nose with cedar and sagebrush. The attack is similar, with sweet intense cassis and espresso. It finishes with a touch of residual sugar, which won't bother most folks, but I think you should age this three to five years to let all the parts come together. Think mushroom burgers, or a flat iron steak.Tasted: 17 October 2020Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrind Estate Winery is a new lakefront winery on the historic Bennett Property in West Kelowna. Markus Frind purchased the property in 2017 after he sold his company Plenty of Fish. With over 500 years of family farming history, Markus wanted to combine his two passions; technology and agriculture. He employed Erik von Krosigk, ex-of Summerhill, to make the wines. This medium-bodied, youthful merlot is wood-forward, with a whack of lightly toasty cedar-lined wood housing super ripe plum, black raspberry, and earthy cherry fruit. Tannins themselves are sanded pretty smooth, finishing with a warming curl of kirsch. Pretty upfront and very much in youth, pour this alongside beef or mushroom burgers.Tasted: 20 October 2020Tasted by: Prices:
